Creative Writing

  • Write simple Language Experience Stories using ideas generated.
  • Ask and answer questions about information received.
  • Record details of an event.
  • Formulate interview questions using the 5Ws.
  • Respond to story summaries of classmates and then share opinions and interpretation of the same story.
  • Communicate in different contexts and through various media for a variety of purposes.

GRAMMAR & MECHANICS

  • Contractions
  • Pronouns
  • Possessive Pronouns
  • Adjectives- Comparative/Superlative
  • Verb Agreement
  • Verbs- past participle

SPELLING & VOCABULARY

  • Use context clues, pictures, words, sentences, paragraphs as an aid to gain meaning of unfamiliar words.
  • Use reference sources to confirm meanings and appropriate use of words in context.
  • Practise the appropriate use of homonyms and homographs.

Phonics

  • Vowel digraphs and diphthongs
  • Syllables and use syllabrication rules.
  • Hard and Soft C Words
  • Hard and Soft G Words

January tests start Tuesday, February 04, 2025. These monthly tests will cover all the topics we have completed throughout January.

Subject: Reading and Comprehension
Topics: Summary Writing and Poetry
Students will be reading a given story and poem then use the concepts taught to answer the same.
NB: The students will be provided with a Graphic Organizer to complete the summary.

Students will use given pictures to compose a story. They’re reminded to use some elements of the 5ws and elements of story writing: ‘plot, setting and character’ and they must stretch their sentences.

Subject: Mathematics
Topic:
-Geometry- Open and Closed Path, Simple Closed Path
-Number:Fraction of a shaded portion; Writing Improper Fractions as Mixed numbers and vice versa
-Measurement in metres and centimetres.

Friday, February 7th,2025
Subject: Phonics/Spelling Test
Topic: Vowel Digraphs, diphthongs and syllables
Students will apply the above concepts to complete various tasks-(filling the blanks, number of syllables/ dividing words into syllables; dictation of the Spelling words received on Friday, January 31st,2025.)
